Message From The President
Dear Fellow-Academicians, Sierra Leoneans, Well-Wishers, and Friends,
Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world. As Horace Mann said, “Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of the social machinery”.
We have been privileged to obtain a solid education from Sierra Leone, which we are using to thrive in the Western World today. I can attest to this because of my own personal experience. I will not be where I am in my professional life if it was not for the education from Sierra Leone. Albert Academy as a learning institution contributed to my advanced-level education and tremendously to nation building in Sierra Leone and we want our future generations to benefit from this contribution.
As Academicians, should we not share the responsibility for our alma mater and make it a place where teachers and students can experience the joy of learning? We cannot give up on the children of Sierra Leone. The student population has grown exponentially, while the infrastructure of the school is in disrepair and the desks and chairs in the classrooms cannot accommodate large class sizes. More critically, teachers teach with the barest of resources, while they go for months at a time without pay. We cannot continue blaming such lack of concern on the decade-long civil war. It is our hope that the government should step in and reinforce this crucial element in building our nation by improving the education system. However, we do not have the time to keep waiting on them to help the children of Sierra Leone. Education worldwide has seen sweeping advancements, far beyond where we left off and continues to do so. These advancements have surpassed us. Our children must be equipped to face the challenges and expectations in the world today and need to catch up with the rest of the world in order to survive and thrive for themselves, their families, and for our nation.
Therefore, through the financial contributions of the many who gained an excellent education from the selfless teachers and principals of our school, we are channeling funds and resources to help redress the dire situation at the Albert Academy.
Our primary focus is the renovation of the old boarding home to make it functional for the students and teachers of the Albert Academy. While significant work has been undertaken, we still have a long way to go to complete the renovations. With your help, I am confident that we will be able to attain completion of this project.
We the members of Albert academy GA chapter cannot do this alone. We ask that you consider making a generous monetary contribution at this website, to help rebuild the Albert Academy in support of our teachers and students. We believe that by directing funds to renovate the infrastructure of the school and furnishing the classrooms, the vast majority of the teachers and students will work in safer and cleaner environments, thereby motivating them to give of their very best. Will this solve the educational problem? Not in the least. It is just the beginning. We still have much more work ahead of us. However, for today, let us take one step forward. The future generation of Sierra Leone needs our help.
We look forward to your contribution and may God bless you and your family abundantly.
President, AAAA GA Chapter, USA
